Kate Miller-Heidke studied at the Queensland Conservatorium in her native Australia‚ where she performed in Venus and AdonisOrpheus and the Underworld‚ and The Pilgrim’s Progress. As an Opera Queensland Developing Artist she sang Flora The Turn of the Screw and covered the roles of Johanna Sweeney Todd and Norina Don Pasquale. Awards for Opera include the Elizabeth Muir Prize (2000)‚ the Donald Penman Prize (2001)‚ the Linda Edith Allen Memorial Prize (2002) and the Horace Keats Prize (2002).

Recent and future operatic plans include British Dancing Girl The Death of Klinghoffer for the Metropolitan Opera‚ New York and for English National Opera‚ Baby Jane Jerry Springer the Opera for Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House and Amber in the world premiere of Michel van der Aa’s Sunken Garden‚ also at ENO and the Holland Festival‚ and Dallas Opera. This season will see Kate appearing in her new opera The Rabbits at Perth International Arts Festival‚ repeated later in Melbourne and another collaboration with Michel van der Aa‚ to be seen at the Holland Festival.

Kate has recently released her 3rd studio album Nightflight‚ which debuted at #2 on the ARIA album charts and #1 on the iTunes album charts.

Her debut album Little Eve went gold and received four ARIA nominations. Her second album Curiouser reached double platinum sales in Australia‚ spawning two platinum hits Last Day On Earth and Caught In The Crowd. In 2009 Kate became the first Australian to win the grand prize in the International Songwriting Competition for Caught In The Crowd. Last Day On Earth was the 3rd most-played song on Australian radio in 2009.

The last two years have seen Kate tour the US‚ UK‚ Asia and Europe extensively as well as performing over 100 shows with Ben Folds and his band Ben Folds Five‚ also appearing on his latest album Lonely Avenue. In 2012 she opened the Coachella Festival in California.
